After the welcoming ceremony at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence, a tête-à-tête conversation took place between the Minister of Defence of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, and the Minister of Defence of Georgia, Irakli Chikovani. This was followed by a meeting with the extended delegations. During the meeting, the current level of cooperation was highly valued. Issues related to Armenia-Georgia cooperation in the field of defence and regional security were discussed. The parties also presented details regarding the ongoing reforms in the Armed Forces of both countries. At the end of the meeting, the Defence Ministers signed the 2024 cooperation plan between the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Defence of Georgia.

On July 12th, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, hosted the Defence Minister of Georgia, Irakli Chikovani, who arrived in Armenia for an official visit, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence. At the Ministry of Defence, a welcoming ceremony for Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani took place, featuring a guard of honor and a military band. The national anthems of the Republic of Armenia and Georgia were played.

ԱվելինMeeting in the administrative complex of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia
On the sidelines of his working visit to Armenia, the Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Minister of Defence and Defence Policy Director of the Austrian Ministry of Defence, Dr. Arnold Kammel, met with the Head of the Department of Defence Policy and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Levon Ayvazyan. The parties presented the progress and priorities of reforms in both countries and discussed possibilities for exchanging experiences in these areas. They also addressed prospective directions of cooperation in the defence field and issues related to multilateral cooperation formats. As part of his visit, Dr. Arnold Kammel visited the NDRU of the RA MoD and met with the university’s Professors and Lecturers staff. Dr. Arnold Kammel paid tribute to the Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.

On July 10th, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan, received the Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Minister of Defence, Defence Policy Director of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Austria Dr. Arnold Kammel. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to the Republic of Armenia, Thomas Mühlmann, also attended the meeting. The discussions focused on perspectives of cooperation between Armenia and Austria in the field of defence. Suren Papikyan presented the progress of defence reforms in Armenia and, in that context, the scope of international cooperation. Issues related to regional security were also discussed.

On July 9th, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia, H.E. Mr. Mehdi Sobhani. The newly appointed Defence Attaché of the Embassy of the IRI in the RA, Colonel Mohammad Najafi, also participated in the meeting. Minister Papikyan extended congratulations to the newly appointed Defence Attaché and conveyed his best wishes for success in his pivotal mission. Furthermore, Suren Papikyan expressed gratitude to the former Defence Attaché, Colonel Bahman Sadeghin for productive cooperation. The discussion encompassed topics related to Armenia-Iran defence cooperation and regional security.

ԱվելինArmenia-U.S. joint exercise "EAGLE PARTNER 2024" will be held in Armenia
In the framework of preparation for participation in international peacekeeping missions the Armenia-U.S. joint exercise "EAGLE PARTNER 2024" will be held from 15 to 24 July in Armenia. Servicemembers from the peacekeeping brigade of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, the U.S. Army Europe and Africa, and the Kansas National Guard participate in the exercise. The exercise will focus on stabilization tasks between conflicting parties during a peacekeeping mission. The purpose of the exercise is to enhance the interoperability of units participating in international peacekeeping missions, exchange best practices in control and tactical communication, and improve the readiness of the Armenian unit. Units preparing for international peacekeeping operations regularly engage in similar joint military exercises and training with partner countries.

On June 28th, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, Suren Papikyan, held a telephone conversation with the Minister of Defence of Cyprus, Vasilis Palmas. During the discussion, topics related to defence cooperation between Armenia and Cyprus were addressed. Additionally, issues concerning the agenda for the upcoming official visit of the Minister of Defence of Cyprus to the Republic of Armenia were also deliberated.

In the framework of his working visit to Luxembourg on June 20, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Suren Papikyan met with the Minister of Defence of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Yuriko Backes. Ambassador Tigran Balayan was also in attendance at the meeting. Discussions encompassed the potential for cooperation between Armenia and Luxembourg in security and defence fields, including partnerships in multilateral frameworks such as NATO and the EU, as well as regional security issues. Minister Papikyan presented an overview of the ongoing reforms within the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.

Furthermore, Minister Papikyan presented the “Crossroads of Peace” project developed by the Government of the Republic of Armenia.
