Press Release

26 April, 2016 09:33
On April 25-26, the Azerbaijani side committed 15 violations on the north-eastern section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani national border. Azerbaijan released recurrent fire at Armenian positions with various calibre weapons and snipers.

The RA AF frontline subdivisions have exercised restraint, retaliated only in cases of strict necessity, and confidently pursue monitoring the situation on the border.

In accordance with the situational report conveyed by the NKR DA, on the night of April 25-26, the enemy violated the oral agreement on ceasefire over 80 times, whilst attacking with 60mm (26 shells) and 82mm (75 shells) mortars, RPG-7 (7 shells), SPG-9 (2 shells) and AGS-17 (3 shells) grenade launchers, and ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft twin-barreled auto-cannon (200 shots), TR-107 artillery rocket, and a tank. Apart from combat positions, the enemy also shelled the settlements of Martakert with a BM-21 (Grad) multiple rocket launcher (8 shells).

As a result of violations of the ceasefire agreement by the enemy, DA contract soldiers Tigran Poghosyan (born 1992) and Aram Arushanyan (born 1972) received fatal wounds.

In order to suppress the enemy’s aggressive actions, the Nagorno-Karabakh Army undertook preventive steps and attacked its frontlines, thus causing significant manpower and equipment damages.

Currently, the situation along the entire line of contact is relatively calm.

The RA Ministry of Defence shares the great grief and extends its deepest condolences to the family members, relatives and brothers in arms of the deceased servicemen.
