Defence minister pays visit to Armenian peacekeepers serving in Mazar e Sharif

Acting Defence Minister David Tonoyan, on a working visit in Afghanistan, paid a visit on 20 November to Mazar e Sharif, where Armenian peacekeepers serve under the German command.

The delegation headed by Minister Tonoyan was met by the commander of the northern contingent of the Camp Marmal military base, German General Gerhard Klaffus.

In the morning of 21 November, Minister Tonoyan met with the base’s command. At the headquarters of the command, General Klaffus briefed Tonoyan on the service specifics and tasks as well as the situation in the region. During the meeting, a wide range of military-political issues were also discussed.

Minister Tonoyan, accompanied by the Armenian contingent’s commanders, visited the spots were the Armenian peacekeepers carry out their service and was briefed on the conditions of their service. He talked about the political process under way in Armenia and the reforms implemented in the Armed Forces, as well as the role of peacekeeping missions in that context. He also answered their questions and thanked them for their conscientious service.
