Tribute to the Memory of Freedom Fighters Missing in Action

On June 29th, in commemoration of the memory of martyrs and individuals missing in action, members of the commission concerning questions related to prisoners of war, hostages and persons missing in action led by president of the commission, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, representatives of the civil council adjacent to the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, the Union of Volunteer Freedom Fighters, the Union of Artsakh War Veterans, other NGOs and relatives of persons missing in action visited the "Yerablur" memorial. The visitors presented flowers at the memorial for missing persons.

During the ceremony at Yerablur, Chief of the Department of Information and Public Affairs Vardan Avetisyan noted that the heroism exhibited by freedom fighters during the Artsakh Liberation War are passed on to youth and servicemen of the Armenian army. What is more, the memory of those who participated in the defense of our lands and the protection of their principles is one of the key factors behind the success of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia and its ability to defend our nation.

President of the "Council of Relatives of Individuals Missing in Action" Rima Arakelyan also noted that the years passed not only did not weaken the hope for the return of persons missing in action but contributed to the formation of the government commission concerning questions related to prisoners of war, hostages and persons missing in action, and through it, the implementation of search efforts.

Minister of Defense, Seyran Ohanyan emphasized that missing persons are the inevitable result and permanent wound of any war, and always remind of the utmost responsibility in protecting our nation. As president of the commission concerning questions related to prisoners of war, hostages and persons missing in action, Seyran Ohanyan expressed assurances that the utmost has been and will continue to be done to fill the empty pages of the fate of missing persons, in order to comfort their relatives and help in any way possible.

The Minister of Defense was also present at the building of the museum which is being built on the grounds of the "Yerablur" military pantheon, and acquainted himself with the construction taking place there.
