Press Release

15 April, 2016 10:26
On the night of April 14th and 15th, 14 ceasefire violations by the adversary were recorded on the north-east portion of Armenia-Azerbaijan state border. The Azerbaijani side has randomly fired from weapons of various calibers towards Armenian positions.

Front line divisions of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, exhibiting restraint, have resorted to retaliatory actions only in the case of strict necessity, and confidently monitor the situation at the border.

According to information received from the NKR Defence Army, operational conditions on the line of contact between NKR-Azerbaijan forces remained the same on the night of April 14th and 15th. Using assault rifles, sniper rifles, and mortars of various calibers, the adversary fired along the entire length of the line of contact, violating the terms of the ceasefire over 60 times. The situation was particularly tense on the northern (Gyulistan), northeastern (Talish-Martakert), eastern (Martuni), and southern (Hadrut) portions of the line of contact, where the adversary employed 82mm (3 times) and 60mm (12 times) mortars and AGS-17 grenade launchers (16 times) in addition to a variety of rifles.

It is noteworthy that the violations that took place last night, and those that have been taking place in the past two days are gradually turning into incidents, as a result of which there are losses. The lethal bullet wound received by DA serviceman Manvel Armeni Gevorgyan on the night of April 14th, at approximately 23:20 is proof of this phenomenon.

Taking this factor into account, DA front-line divisions carry out their combat assignments in accordance with how the situation develops, and confidently carry out the defence of Nagorno-Karabakh. The Azerbaijani side bears full responsibility for the results of the incidents that take place on the front line.
