Yura Poghosyan

Yura Poghosyan was born on 8 April 1961 in Kotovo (Volgograd Region, Russia). He spend his childhood and adolescence years in Stepanakert. He was drawn to sports and technical sciences from early age. He had worked as an auto mechanic. In 1983, Poghosyan founded a car repair shop in Stepanakert, which later became one of the first arsenals of the Artsakh movement. The weapons was making were first used in 1990, in Hadrut district, when the Azeri special police, supported by Soviet troops, sought to forcefully deport Armenians. In 1991, he became commander of the 4th company. He always performed as a skilled commander, a brave warrior, a scout and sapper in battles. As a commander of a detachment, he took part in the battles of Kichan, Srkhavend, Edilu and Khrmanjugh. He destroyed the enemy armoured vehicles with his armoured carrier. 1Poghosyan was killed on the Askeran-Nakhijevanik front on 12 June 1992. He was buried in Stepanakert. Awarded with the NKR Order of Battle Cross of 1st degree. National Hero of Armenia (posthumous, 20.09.1996). He was awarded the highest Hayrenik Order of the Republic of Armenia. Hero of Artsakh (posthumous, 2002). He was awarded the Golden Eagle Medal.
