Minister of Defense of Armenia meets representatives of International Committee of the Red Cross

On August 7, Mr David Tonoyan, Minister of Defense met representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), headed by ICRC Delegation to Armenia, Mrs. Claire Maitro.

At the meeting the parties discussed the current issues of cooperation between the RA Ministry of Defense and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Armenia, the current arrangements, as well as the possibilities of enhancing the cooperation efficiency and upcoming actions.

The parties also referred to the recent increase in tension in the Nakhichevan sector of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Expressing her concerns concern over the threats to the life, health and property of civilians, Mrs. Maitreo expressed her readiness to implement a pilot risk reduction program in one of the most vulnerable communities in Armenia with the assistance of gorernment bodies, which shall include building protective walls at community schools, kindergartens and areas mostly under fire as well as to  conduct measures to raise awareness among people.

At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the fate of missing persons suffered from Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as other issues related to the coordination of works carried out by the commission for captives, hostages and missing persons and ICRC.
