Armenia-EU cooperation in security and defence fields discussed

Acting Minister of Defence Davit Tonoyan met on 18 October with Thomas Mayr-Harting, the managing director for Europe and Central Asia in the European External Action Service, and Ambassador Pyotr Svitalsky, the head of the EU Delegation to Armenia.

The parties discussed the prospects of Armenia-EU cooperation in the defence sector; in particular, the involvement in EU’s military training programmes and participation in the EU peacekeeping missions. They pointed to the importance of elaborating relevant international legal framework.

At the request of the guests, Acting Minister Tonoyan briefed them on the situation at the contact line and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani state border, noting that there is currently less tension.
