Armenian defence minister attends CSTO Council of Defence Ministers meeting

Kazakhstan Defence Minister Col. Gen. Saken Zhasuzakov presided over the CSTO Council of Defence Ministers meeting, held in Astana, Kazakhstan, on 23 May.

The meeting, attended by CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov and Chief of CSTO Joint Staff Col. Gen. Anatoly Sidorov, discussed issues related to the strengthening of the military cooperation within CSTO and the further development of the organization’s military component. A number of resolutions were also signed.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Armenian Defence Minister Davit Tonoyan had a bilateral meeting with Russian Defence Minister Army General Sergey Shoygu. During the meeting, the ministers congratulated each other on appointment on their positions, and conveyed their mutual willingness to make joint efforts, both bilateral and within the CSTO framework, for further development of the Armenian-Russian strategic relationships in a range of cooperation areas and ensure a higher level of cooperation. They also discussed issues related to regional and international security and ways of jointly responding the existing threats.

The participants of the meeting were received by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
