Roundtable discussion on strengthening European standards of human rights in Armenian military

A roundtable discussion titled "Strengthening in Armenia the implementation of European human rights standards in military" was held on December 11.

It was attended by Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Natalia Vutova, Head of Defence Ministry’s Human Rights and Good Behaviour Centre Col. Alik Avetisyan, the project’s International Director Andrey Yesin and representatives of governmental agencies.

The United Kingdom-funded and CE-implemented project is aimed at facilitating the implementation of the European standards of human rights in the Armenian military and improving the processes of preventing, detecting, reporting and investigating human rights violations in the military.

Welcoming the roundtable participants, Col. Avetisyan highlighted and appreciated the work carried out by the Advisory Group, read out the message by Minister of Defence Vigen Sargsyan to the roundtable participants.

Armen Grigoryan of the Council of Europe Office, who is in charge of the project, presented the reports on the human rights record in the Armenian Armed Forces. Relevant officials presented their opinions and suggestions related to the issues raised in the reports.
