Minister Sargsyan spoke about the proposed amendments to the Law on Defence and the Law on Status of Military Service and Servicemen. He, in particular, detailed the issue of education-based postponement of military service, the specifications of alternative service under the "I am" and "I Have the Honour" programs. Sargsyan pointed out that although some are trying to undermine the ideas and content of the new legislative initiatives that are extremely important for the defence and security of our country, in reality, the main purpose of the change is to give a new quality to military service and education.

He once again pointed out that the current system of university postponements is incomplete and results in many forms of injustice, whereas the new laws -- for the first time -- puts the students of the state and private universities in equal positions by offering them alternative service with a tangible compensation package, and meantime, they do not create obstacles for students with exceptional abilities and for young people wishing to pursue science.

Sargsyan noted that the students' concerns that the postponement is allegedly revoked by the new laws are baseless. The academic postponement will not be revoked; those who want to get education and who are willing not to interrupt the educational process, who would have been called to the military after their graduation from the university with a bachelor’s degree, can now serve as officers and paid a salary in addition to reimbursement of tuition costs both for bachelor's and master’s programs.

Reacting to the strike and demands voiced by students at the Yerevan State University,  Sargsyan said that everyone has the right to have an own opinion and to express it, and that the oppositional youth were also invited to this meeting, but members of the initiative group that declared the strike failed to attend this meeting.

He also answered the questions asked by the participants of the meeting, noting that he is always open for public discussions of issues raised and exchange of opinions.
