Partnership -2017 exercise wraps up

The final – firing – stage of the Partnership – 2017 exercise, conducted jointly by the CSTO Collective Rapid Response Forces and units of the joint group of the Armenian and Russian Armed Forces, was held at the Baghramyan Training Ground on October 13.

The commander of Russia’s South Military District, the chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, the chiefs of general staffs of the Armenian, Belarus and Kazakhstan armed forces, as well as representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in the Republic of Armenia attended the event.

The Partnership – 2017 exercise, conducted in Armenia between October 9 and 13, the final event held in the framework of the Combat Brotherhood- 2017 Operative-Strategic exercise aimed at military settlement of conflicts.  The main purpose of the exercise was to develop joint formats for the joint use of CSTO Collective Rapid Response Force and the joint group of the Armenian and Russian Armed Forces under the general strategic command of Russia’s South Military District. The exercise’s goal was to enhance the collective force management system of CSTO troops and to test the effectiveness of management of collective and regional groupings in fulfilment of their objectives.

The exercise tested the effectiveness of the management of collective and regional groupings, improved the practical skills of the CSTO RRF unit commanders and the field skills of the troops, as well as the level of cooperation between the units.

Under the design of the exercise, the CSTO CRRF and the joint group of the Armenian and Russian Armed Forces carried out tasks and operations aimed at location and destruction of the possible adversary’s subversive groups, illegal armed groupings, military training camps, release of hostages, as well as protection the state border.

CSTO member states’ artillery, airborne, police and emergency situations units were engaged in the final stage of the exercise. Representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross were also in attendance as part of their humanitarian mandate. More than 2500 servicemen from CSTO member states, about 500 units of armament and military equipment, including 25 aircraft, were involved in the exercise. The exercise was held in accordance with the CSTO Council of Defense Ministers and Security Council Secretaries Committee plan, approved in 2016, for the purpose of protecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the CSTO member states.
