On March 14th, in the context of the "Implementation of human rights standards in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia" program of the European Council, a meeting took place between the head of the Human Rights and Integrity Building Center of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, Alik Avetisyan and a group of needs assessment experts.

Members of the group met with representatives of the legal department of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, the military police of the Ministry of Defense, the military commissariat of the Republic, and the V. Sargsyan Military University of the Ministry of Defense. The group of experts aimed to reveal legal issues, issues in practical law enforcement, and issues in educational methodologies, though meetings with stakeholders.

 

Existing issues and planned reforms in the legislative framework governing the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, and changes in some laws and legal acts resulting from changes made to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia in particular, were presented during the meeting. Questions concerning the "2017-2019 action plan for the national strategy for human rights defense" and human rights defense in the Armed Forces included in this action plan were discussed, as was the "2017-2021 strategy and event plan for the implementation of the policy of equal opportunities for men and women in the Republic of Armenia."
