Marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, on December 3, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and several high-ranking representatives of the Ministry of Defense visited the “Lernayin Hayastan” resort in order to witness the final stage of table game tournaments for disabled veterans.

The Minister of Defense spoke with disabled veterans who fought during the Artsakh Liberation War, as well as disabled servicemen and their relatives. Seyran Ohanyan observed their current problems and assured them that their social and living conditions are at the centre of the Republic’s and Armed Forces’ attention. While addressing himself to the disabled veterans, Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan noted that people need to have a healthy spirit in order to keep themselves strong, despite having physical problems caused by the war. In spite of physical problems, a person can still be useful for the society and above all, our country is in need of such people with a healthy judgment and healthy spirits. During the tournament organized by the Ministry of Defense and the “Satar” NGO, disabled veterans competed for 5 days in various tournaments of chess, checkers, backgammon, cards, and swimming. The aim of the tournament was to create equal opportunities and integrate people with disabilities into society. The tournament ended with an award ceremony, during which the Defense Minister handed out certificates and monetary awards to winning disabled veterans.
