About University
Meeting the requirements of the time in 1992 by the decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia the republican aero club and the “Arzni” airport passed under the subordination of the Ministry of Defense, which in order to train aviation specialists necessary for the Armenian Armed Forces, by the order of the Defense Minister, on April 1, 1993 was reestablished as ARM MoD Military Aviation Center and became Armenia’s first military educational establishment. By the decision N447 of the ARM Government and the mediation of the Minister of Defense on September 20, 1994, the Center was given a status of secondary professional educational institution, with a name of Military-Aviation Flight-Technical College (3-years education). Taking into consideration the degree of the College’s preparedness and basing on the modern demands for officer-specialists, according to the ARM MoD order N 392, 25.05.2001 the College was reestablished as MoD higher educational institution – ARM MoD Military Aviation Institute (four-year full-time education). A three-year part-time education became also possible in order to give the graduates from the College an opportunity to receive a higher engineering education. Taking into consideration the presence of the educational-methodological and laboratorial rich bases and the high degree of engineering preparedness in 2002 the Institute was assigned the task to organize the training of ARM AF officer-signalers and in 2005 officers specialized in anti-aircraft defense. On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, in 2005 by the ARM MoD order N351, 01.04.2005 the Institute was named after Marshal Armenak Khanperyants. By the same order the Military Aviation Institute was presented a Battle Flag. In 2004 the Institute started organizing the educational process with the faculty principle. The Faculty of General Education Subjects provides cadets with basic engineering knowledge and general military preparedness. The other 3 faculties – Aviation, Signal and Anti-Aircraft Defense – are specialized.
