On May 19th, 2008, continuing his familiarization meetings with the personnel of RA Ministry of Defense, RA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan met with the staffs of the Information Department, the Department of Work with the Personnel, the Operational Readiness Department and the Physical Training Department. Turning to the activity of the above-mentioned departments, Seyran Ohanyan stressed the importance of the military, physical and moral-psychological preparedness of the servicemen, as well as the essence of the reforms in the Armed Forces.

On May 14, 2008 RA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia Seid Ali Saghaian. During the meeting the ambassador congratulated the minister on his appointment and conveyed the congratulation message of the Iranian Minister of Defense and Support to Armed Forces, General-Major Mostafa Mohhamad Najari.

On May 14, 2008 the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, First Deputy Defense Minister, Colonel General Yuri Khachaturov will participate in the spring sitting of the Chiefs of General Staffs of the Armed Forces of NATO member states and partner countries to be held at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

On 14 May at the beginning of “Cooperative Lancer/Longbow - 2008” Exercises Main Planning Conference (MPC) the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Armenian Armed Forces, Major General Arshaluys Paytyan and the Deputy Chief of Staff of Allied Land Component Command Heidelberg, Brigadier General Claudio Verchellotti have had greeting and opening speeches for the participants.

On May 6th 2007 a team of NATO experts have arrived in Yerevan on a two-day visit. The goal of the visit is to discuss with Armenian military officials ways to further bilateral cooperation. Special stress will be on expansion of cooperation in military education.

On May 3rd, 2007 Defense minister Seyran Ohanyan traveled to north-eastern province of Tavush where he visited the town of Noyemberian and military units located close to the villages of Koghb and Voskepar.

On April 16, 2008 RA President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on appointed former defense minister Mikael Harutyunyan as a chief military inspector of the President of the Republic of Armenia. According to another decree signed by President Serzh Sargsyan Mikael Harutyunyan was appointed as an adviser to the President of the Republic of Armenia.

On April 15, 2008 The President of the republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan in the headquarters of general staff of RA presented newly appointed Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, First Deputy Defense Minister, Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov to the senior Officer staff of the Army.

On April 15,2008 RA President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on appointing Lieutenant-General Yuri Khachaturov the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, First Deputy Defense Minister, dismissing him from the position of the Deputy Defense Minister. According to another presidential decree, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, First Deputy Defense Minister was conferred the rank of Colonel-General.
